Welcome to GÉANT Learning and Development (GLAD). In these pages you can find out more about our learning programmes for GÉANT Project participants, employees and the wider Research & Education communities.

About GLAD

GÉANT Learning & Development team (GLAD) is tasked with developing the skills and experience of GÉANT Project contributors. Each year, GLAD offers training programmes on diverse topics - from network security and threat identification through to presentation and public speaking skills. Wherever possible, training is extended to the whole GÉANT community so as to enrich the pool of talented contributors. Furthermore, the Future Talent Programme and Trust & Identity Mentoring (TIM) programmes foster the skills of the next generation.

In addition to its training programmes, GLAD offers a growing portfolio of online learning through its portal, eAcademy. In all these ways, GLAD contributes to GÉANT’s mission to advance European research, education and innovation.

Project Learning Requests

In order to meet learning needs within your Work Packages for GN5-1 and GN5-IC1, we have devised a new process to best assess how GLAD can assist you.

Initially we invite you to consider your Work Package/Task’s learning needs and objectives for 2023 and consider whether you will need GLAD’s support.

Some Work Packages offer training from their own Subject Matter Experts and seek GLAD’s help to organise training of their own design.

Depending on the nature of your request, please choose the appropriate process:

  1. If you have requests for GLAD to either source or provide training during 2023 then please complete a Learning Request Form (LRF) and send to GLAD@geant.org by 28th February 2023.
  2. If you plan to offer training and want GLAD’s support to arrange the event, please complete a Request for Support Form (RSF). Send to GLAD@geant.org by 28th February 2023.

GLAD will then prioritise requests with the PMO and PMB and publish a 2023 workplan by 31st March 2023. GLAD will email successful requesters with the name of their training organiser and the month in which the event will be scheduled.

In recent years, GLAD has received more requests than it is able to fulfil. If we are unable to fulfil your request, we may still be able to fund your training if you can self-organise it. In this case we will offer you guidance in how to proceed.

In any case, we recommend that you begin your learning journey by exploring free online resources such as GÉANT’s eAcademy and eSkillsMatch, a European training portal. Project contributors can also request a licence to O’Reilly Media which contains a range of high quality technical training, certification and sandboxes. Please email GLAD for details.
