How are we going to scale interfederation globally, with the pieces we have
DATE: 20 November 2012

TOPIC: Interfederation

MAIN ISSUES DISCUSSED
- How do you get to an SP in another federation, from an IdP in your home federation.
- Requirements:
- SAML2 (in both federations)
- Federations (at A and B)
- Bilateral Peering is possible (but you don't want to do that because it doesn't scale)
- UK Federation + Edugate interfederation agreement
- Easy: Metadata, Attributes, Workflow
- Hard: Trust (federation operator processes)
- Can metadata distribution/redistribution work?
- HTTP GET doesn't work too bad at the moment.
- 5500 entities at the moment (43MB file)
- How large was the
/etc/hosts
file before it was too big. - Problem Space: IdPs aren't releasing enough attributes.
- eduGAIN needs to get all components of its house in order (remove the barrier for any/all federations).
