Introduction / Description:
GEANT SA3-T5, the eduPERT task is offering a 1 Day Workshop. Based on the experience from the JISC training (2017), the training sessions in Zurich (2016), and Porto (2015) we compiled the workshop program on NRENs and outreach input. This expertise in mind we defined the scope primarily on perfSONAR (the most distributed deployment within GEANT), structured in two parts:
The morning session at a beginner/intermediate level highlighting what perfSONAR is today and why it is useful; pS toolkit basics (how to set-up and use a system) along with typical/exemplary use cases; and pScheduler basics - why and how bwctl was replaced, and troubleshooting examples (how to).
The afternoon session at an intermediate/advanced/expert level with topics and activities on pS 4.1 - what’s new, the evolution from meshconfig-agent to pSconfig, and some pScheduler advanced topics. A brief introduction to troubleshooting, security policies, Science DMZs and DTNs will also be presented.
Pre installed VMs environment with a basic pS setup will be provided on the eduPERT workshop by SWITCHengines for the hands-on activities. Participants will be taught to navigate a pS toolkit GUI (what features are available) and pScheduler on an introductory to advanced level. Especially, a related hands-on session will introduce example procedures for performance monitoring and alerting with a common NMS like Nagios in combination with perfSONAR. Furthermore, tangential topics such as Science DMZs, DTNs and security practices will be discussed as they often incorporate perfSONAR deployments.
Target audience / Who should attend:
Network researchers / administrators (N)RENs
DevOps members of the (N)RENS
Network Engineers (Industry)
Network Researchers
perfSONAR endpoint/system operators (i.e., NREN customer sites, folks from supercomputing centers, etc.)
