This report is for INFORMATION. The fully revised TF-MNM Charter will be brought to the next TTC meeting for approval.
Background for TTC Members
The charter for TF-MNM came up for renewal in September 2014. There was consensus in the community to continue TF-MNM, but also a feeling that some changes were needed. It is increasingly unclear where TF-MNM sits in the structure of other work being carried out in the mobility area. There is a desire from many places to make TF-MNM a global eduroam forum, but this competes with other groups set up for eduroam such as the (european-only) eduroam Steering Group. There was also a paper from the Global CEO Forum that proposed introducing another such group and a meeting was held at TNC2014 to try and prevent more duplication of effort.
Nicole Harris is working with the chair of the Global eduroam Governance Committee (Chris Phillips) and the TF-MNM chair (Klaas Wierenga) to address these issues and bring more focus and attention to the TF-MNM charter. A very early draft of ideas is available but is likely to change. A full version will be discussed at the TF-MNM meeting on 1st December in Vienna.
It is also noted that Klaas has recently changed jobs within Cisco and as such has many demands on his time at the moment. It is possible that he may have to step down from the role of chair, but this will be confirmed asap .
