GÉANT is dedicated to providing harassment-free meeting attendance and meeting experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality or religion. The following rules are also valid for online meetings and exchanges taking place within the mailing lists of the Community's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Task Forces (TFs).

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Political activities and commercial sales will also not be tolerated.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

Any sponsors or exhibitors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualised images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.

Be careful in the words that you choose. Remember that sexist, racist, and other exclusionary jokes can be offensive to those around you. Excessive swearing and offensive jokes are not appropriate.

If a participant engages in behaviour that violates this code of conduct, the meeting organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the meeting with no refund and/or from the mailing list.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Event staff, Event Steering Committee or SIG/TF Steering Committee immediately. They can be identified by their badge or easily found at the Registration Desk or Info Hub.

Event staff or local hosts will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance and participation.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all meeting venues and meeting-related social events.

  1. I suggest to ask to have an HR person as the main contact - to keep this neutral.

    1. HR typically deals with internal issues so would probably not be the right place.  Having an inclusivity officer role in GÉANT take a lead would be better - but for live events it has to be dealt with by the responsible event manager.

  2. I would add "Harassment includes offensive verbal and not verbal comments and behaviours related to...". Harassment (and violence) can be also conveyed with no verbal communication, it is important to specify.

  3. "If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the Event staff..." I think would be important to add that people need to intervene to stop the unwanted behavior and contact a member.

  4. I would specify harassment can take place openly (with people around) but also in private setting (this for some cultures and genders is not given for granted)

  5. Two potential additions

     - This should include all GÉANT spaces including the wiki, connect blogs etc

     - This should include consistently pushing your viewpoint on other attendees / participants when it has already been acknowledged / heard.
