| New WP6 Training Series: Quantum Technology WP6 started a new training series as part of the WP6 Network eAcademy which will focus on various aspects of Quantum Technology. The first learning unit "QuBits" is the introduction to a five part class (+ annex) on Quantum Algebra. The second unit is called “Quantum Algebra: Operator Multiplication: Variants” and guides you into the field of scalar multiplications, matrix multiplications and dyadic multiplications. The third learning unit “Quantum Algebra: Mathematical Operators” provides insight into various special mathematical operators (matrices) that are applied to QuBits (as vectors), and are used in many application cases, for example for entanglement and teleportation. Part 4 "Quantum Algebra: QuBit Entanglement" and part 5 "Quantum Algebra: Teleportation" are now available! Part 4 shows how coupled QuBits can be created from independent QuBits using the tools from the preceding learning units. In part 5 you can follow the teleportation of QuBit states as it is carried out in an almost "miraculous way" with the help of entangled QuBits - without material transport of the QuBits. To grasp the teleportation process there is first a qualitative description in part A which is then followed by a mathematical description of teleportation in part B. |

| Quantum Key Distribution - Practical Implementations, Challenges, R&E Use Cases and Standardisation Outlook. This second Infoshare will focus on the first use case of quantum communication: Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Key Distribution. In this first use case, the NREN community can play an important role by demonstrating how Quantum Key Distribution can be implemented in a production network context and a wide range of use cases. Our users (universities, science laboratories, ...) are already investigating these topics and there is an excellent opportunity for the NRENs to provide their support for these activities. | Quantum Technologies - Principles, Challenges and Applications. The “first quantum revolution” focused more on understanding and predicting physical processes at nano scale. By the end of the 20th century, it had already led to tangible applications (Laser, light-emitting diode [LED], hard disk, atomic clock, …). Now during the 21st century, the 2nd quantum revolution aims to engineer quantum systems. The work is organized mainly around four fundamental scientific pillars: communication, computing, simulation, sensing & metrology (see European Strategic Research Agenda). Read more... |

| Quantum Network Explorer is an interactive tool that allows you to design your own experiments and simulations and therefore can help you to understand and get familiar with the concepts of quantum networks and quantum internet. The tool allows you to setup quantum network configurations and conditions and thus enables you to design your own use cases. The Quantum Network Explorer website has tutorials, examples and access to a SLACK community where knowledge can be shared and problems can be discussed and solved. From the NREN perspective, it is another interesting tool that can be used for training, is free to use and helps to understand the basic concepts of quantum networks and internet from the theoretical and practical point of views. One of the possible use cases to analyse is QKD implementation. Read more... |
