The primary objective of a L3VPN product is to provide a private IP networking environment, virtually segregated from the GEANT IP network. This virtual network environment is built on the same physical network infrastructure as GEANT’s IP backbone but is logically separated from it for the dedicated use by the participants of the VPN. All traffic exchanged within a L3VPN is limited to the VPN participants and are not seen by any other VPN or non-VPN users. Interested parties can access GEANT L3VPN over NREN’s IP access to GEANT. Additionally, it is also possible to deliver GEANT L3VPN service to traffic intensive projects or participants over a dedicated interface.
