Task Leader: Andrew Mackarel
Description of workDuring GN4-1 the GÉANT Green Team, proposes to capitalise on the considerable specialist knowledge and expertise built up by the team during GN3plus, by recruiting more NRENs into the programme of work by encouraging the improvement of energy efficiency of the GÉANT service delivery chain, from core GÉANT services to the NRENs and connected institutions. Specifically: - The Green Team will promote the widespread use of the tools developed during GN3plus and encourage their use to collect data on progress being made in energy efficiency.
- The Green Team will develop and maintain links with other elements of the Project, including the research and innovation and service elements, to ensure environmental sustainability factors are taken into account in their work. An important part of this work is to ensure that GÉANT governance formally accepts and endorses an Environmental Sustainability Policy for GÉANT that will be published on the project website. To this end, the task leader will take responsibility for ensuring that GÉANT management completes this activity before the end of GN4-1.
- The Green Team will provide a centre of excellence and knowledge, leading the improvement of environmental performance throughout the duration of the GN4-1 project, by seeking efficiencies and synergies wherever possible and using the resources of 1/NA1 and 2/NA2 to streamline document production and event logistic support.
- Task 3 contributes to the following FPA Action objectives: A1, A5, B6 by contributing to the energy efficiency and hence cost-effectiveness of the infrastructure, D2, D4, D5, E1, E2, E4 by encouraging collaborative approaches and leveraging peer pressure to ensure green approaches are implemented in a timely manner, and F6, ensuring that the GÉANT ecosystem is sustainable from an energy efficiency perspective.
